Harli Seifert celebrates her 85th birthday

The “blame” for everything was Theo, Harli Seifert’s now deceased husband. The couple, who lived in Darmstadt at the time, he an architect and she a draughtswoman and interior designer, took riding lessons. However, Harli Seifert was initially suspicious of horses. This only changed when she discovered Chica. The dark bay Chronos daughter was initially Harli Seifert's jumping, hunting and leisure horse. Under the saddle of Wolfgang Mengers, she showed remarkable potential and collected numerous ribbons in international eventing.

After the end of her sporting career, Chica started her second career as a broodmare at the age of 13 - under the name Rudilore II. In 1979 she foaled Voila, and a year later Voici (alias Ruling Chica). The sire of both bay mares was Otto Ammermann's Olympic eventing star Volturno. Harli Seifert always relied on her own intuition when making her mating decisions - even if her predominantly male colleagues shook their heads in disbelief. “I wanted to breed performance horses with ability and ambition,” was her clear motto.

The successes of her horses, which are hard to list, prove that she was exactly right. Over 20 licensed stallions have been bred by Harli Seifert, including the outstanding Gio Granno/Franke Sloothaak, Couleur Rubin/Ludger Beerbaum, Conterno Grande/Marco Kutscher, Rubin Royal OLD/Hendrik Lochthowe, Glock's Romanov/Hans Peter Minderhoud/NED and Rubin Action/Stella-Charlotte Roth. The number of prize-winning mares and foals as well as successful sport horses is far higher.

Harli Seifert has received many awards for her phenomenal horse sense and breeding vision.

In 2008, with the help of Harli Seifert's circle of friends, her stallion station in Löningen was transformed into the ultra-modern Dressage Horse Performance Center Lodbergen (DLZ), which is now managed by Wolfgang Stagge and Therese Nilshagen. The DLZ stallion team also included the aforementioned third in the breeding world rankings, Rubin Royal OLD, and Couleur Rubin. The youngest offspring of Seifert's stallion armada is De Royal. The beautiful, now seven-year-old dark chestnut (by De Niro out of the full sister of Rubin Royal OLD and his five licensed full brothers) has already achieved valuable placings in tests for young horses and is now being carefully prepared for a career in the big arena - just as his breeder Harli Seifert intended.
