The Unforgettable Couleur Rubin

Three days ago, on April 28, he would have turned 30 - our unforgettable Couleur Rubin.
About a month earlier - on March 24, to be exact - his no less famous stablemate Rubin Royal OLD had also “retired.” “Couleurchen” and “Rubinchen,” as Harli Seifert always affectionately called the two four-legged offspring from her legendary Rudilore line, both made breeding history. And in the sport—one in show jumping, the other in dressage - they were in a class of their own. Couleur Rubin, a son of Cordalmé Z out of the four-time broodmare Grannuschka (by Grannus), placed under Olympic champion Ludger Beerbaum in the World Cup Final in Las Vegas, USA, and won the Championship in Basel and the Nations Cup in La Baule. His offspring, including Castle Forbes Cosma Shiva - bred by our DLZ farm manager “Wolli” Stagge and ridden by Frenchman Roger Yves Bost - have made their mark on the winners’ lists of top events around the globe.
Rubin Royal OLD, one of six licensed sons from the Passer cross between Rohdiamant and Rumirell (by Grundstein II), recorded Grand Prix victories and placings under Hendrik Lochthowe. His numerous Grand Prix-winning offspring, such as Real Dancer FRH under Jan-Dirk Gießelmann, Fohlenhof’s Rock’n Rose with Dorothee Schneider, Rosalie B with the British rider Laura Tomlinson, and the Hamburg Derby winner Rockefeller’s Cinderella under Anabel Balkenhol, catapulted him into the top ten of the world’s best dressage sires for the first time in 2015. In 2017 and 2018, he even ranked third in the WBFSH rankings. The Rubin Royals are also successful in show jumping and cross-country.
In 2022, Couleur Rubin passed away at the age of 26. The following year, Rubin Royal OLD passed away at the age of 27.
Both were horses with remarkable personalities. And they were the figureheads of Harli Seifert’s breeding station and our resulting Dressage Horse Training Center Lodbergen (DLZ).
THANK YOU, Couleurchen and Rubinchen!!!
